The Assam Book Fair (2022-23) is going on at the playground of the Assam Engineering Institute in Chandmari.
Publication Board, Assam (PBA) organized a seminar on ‘Importance of Folk Culture in the Development of Assamese Literature’ at the book fair. Dr. Kanak Chandra Sahariya, Head of the Assamese Department at Gauhati University, as an anchor said, ‘Kriti’ (folk culture) is the refined form of ‘Sanskrit’ (culture). No one can be successful as a writer without folk culture. Literary works depicting folk life have flourished over the generations. Assamese literature is replete with the folk culture of the communities. Writers ranging from Madhab Kandali, Sankardeva, Madhavdev, Ananta Kandali and Laxminath Bezbarua to modern writers have enriched Assamese literature with material. From folk culture. This flow will continue.”
Organized jointly by Publications Board, Assam and All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association, publishers from Kolkata, New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Bangladesh have participated in the book fair.
The 12-day long festival has a host of events ranging from new book releases and literary discussions, where the audience will be enthralled by performing artistes every evening.
Also, the organizers of the Assam Book Fair have approached the Assam Health Department for necessary instructions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. State Education Minister and Chairman of Publication Board Dr. Ranoj Pegu will address the closing ceremony.
The valedictory function will be addressed by State Education Minister and Chairman of Publications Board, Dr. Ranoj Pegu along with other dignitaries.
