Following the success of Felician University’s first independent forensics program, faculty from the School of Nursing and Arts & Sciences co-authored and published an electronic book titled “An Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Forensic Simulation in Higher Ed.” In this eBook, Felician University faculty share their experiences hosting student-centered forensic simulations.
In June 2022, the Schools of Nursing and Arts and Sciences planned and hosted an experiential learning event involving Felician University students in the disciplines of Nursing, Chemistry and Criminal Justice. In preparation, Felician Faculty designed and adopted an interdisciplinary forensic simulation model from Fairfield University.
“Collaboration among students, especially across diverse disciplines, is a priority of Felician’s intensive experiential learning,” said Dr. Daria Waszak, associate dean in the School of Nursing. “Our interdisciplinary forensic simulation model provided an opportunity for students from the three major departments to combine their specialties and practice hands-on learning.”
With significant student participation and interest, the event inspired faculty to develop a new forensics curriculum in the form of NURS 438, a one-credit Interprofessional Forensic Lab. The course will be officially offered to students for the first time in Fall 2023. Nursing, Chemistry, or Criminal Justice subjects.
