CM Stalin released a set of medical books, which were translated into Tamil – CIBF

At the end of Tamil Nadu’s first Chennai International Book Fair (CIBF), 90 books have been selected for translation and the state government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the same.

Translation will be from Tamil to other languages and from other languages to Tamil. More books are likely to be added to the list with 365 MoUs signed with publishing houses from 30 different countries.

Some Tamil books to be translated into English and other languages include Veerammunivar’s Thembavani, M Karunanidhi’s Kuraloviyam, a dozen Sangam literature books and works by Periyar. Similarly, out of hundreds of books displayed abroad, bureaucrats here have selected a set of books to be translated into Tamil.

Addressing the closing ceremony of CIBF at YMCA Nandanam on Wednesday, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “The government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore as translation grant.” He urged the writers and publishers here to make use of this opportunity which can make Chennai a global knowledge exchange hub.

He said that translation of quality books would strengthen Tamil language and introduce new words, which is the key to longevity of any language.

Though a lot of quality works are being released in Tamil, they are not getting enough attention in the literary circles as they are not being translated into other Indian languages and abroad.

Speaking at the event, TN School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that in the last few decades, only around 100 Tamil books have been translated into other foreign languages and getting another 90 books translated through CIBF is a remarkable achievement which was planned. within a short time.

He was optimistic that subsequent editions of CIBF would bring out more quality books in Tamil and take Tamil to the world.
