The 35th edition of the popular National Book Fair, under the aegis of the Hyderabad Book Fair Society, is back in the city from 22nd December.
Held at the Telangana Kala Bharati Grounds near NTR Stadium, it will be a full-fledged edition after the sluggish Covid-induced fair last year. This year’s book fair is named after the famous short story writer Midde Ramulu.
About 340 stalls will be set up in this fair which will run till January 1 in joint collaboration with the state government and Telugu Sahitya Akademi. The multilingual books including Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Telugu and other languages will be on various subjects such as literature, children’s and progressive literature, classics, novels, storytelling science and technology and story books. Study material for competitive exams, engineering and medical books will also be available at the fair.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the secretary of the society, Sreethikant Bharathi said, “This time we are expecting 20 lakh footfall. We are getting many inquiries from schools and colleges regarding this event. We are expecting a large number of students to come. Besides this, we have distributed around seven lakh free passes to various educational institutions.”
Meanwhile, Sahitya Akademi, Kendriya Hindi Sansthan and Telugu Academy are returning to book fairs after a long gap.
The book fair will remain open from 2 PM to 8.30 PM on weekdays and 1 PM to 9 PM on weekends and public holidays.
