14 new medical colleges will increase in Uttar Pradesh by next year. With this, 1400 MBBS seats will also increase. Speed is also being given to 16 medical colleges to be started on PPP model. Efforts are being made to make more than half of it operational in the next session.
Along with increasing the quality of medical education, continuous work is being done in the direction of its expansion. Before the year 2017, there were only 1840 MBBS seats in the government medical colleges of the state, but now with the increase in medical colleges, there have been 3828 seats. That is, in the last four and a half years, 1988 MBBS seats have increased. Similarly, MBBS seats have also increased from 2550 to 4150 in private medical colleges. 1600 seats have been increased in private medical colleges.
There has also been an unprecedented increase in the number of specialist doctors in the state. Till the year 2017, PG seats were 741 and now it has increased to 1027. In this also there has been an increase of 286 seats. There were 603 PG seats in private medical colleges before 2017, which have now increased to 1064. Of these, 461 seats have increased. Earlier there were 120 seats in DM and MCH, after increasing 57 seats, now there are 177 seats. Three thousand beds have also been increased in medical colleges.
Growing medical colleges
In terms of population, the country’s largest state had only 17 government medical colleges, institutes and universities before the year 2017. But in the last four and a half years, 16 more have become functional. Similarly, on October 25, 2021, Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, Siddharthnagar have been opened. The construction work of medical colleges at Amethi, Auraiya, Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Chandauli, Gonda, Kanpur Dehat, Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, Sonbhadra and Sultanpur is nearing completion. These colleges are preparing to start the academic session next year.
Medical colleges are to be opened on PPP model in 16 districts. So far six medical colleges have been approved. MoU has been done for Sambhal, Maharajganj. In the other six districts, 42 companies have proposed for the medical college. Action is underway on this. In this way, preparations have been completed to open medical colleges on PPP model in eight districts. Tender process is going on for other eight districts.
